Kedlyne Demosthene is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in the state of Maryland. Ms. Demosthene earned her Bachelors of Arts in psychology at Rutgers University in New Jersey, then continued her education at West Virginia University.
In her early career, Ms. Demosthene worked in the nonprofit industry where she assisted Newark Housing Authority create fair and equal policies for low-income families to obtain affordable housing.
After working with low-income families, Ms. Demosthene began to grow interest in addiction due to the alarming increase of overdoses. Ms. Demosthene moved to West Virginia, the state with the leading rate in overdoses, to work hands on in the opioid crisis. Ms. Demosthene began working at Home Base Inc. where she trained to provide therapy for people in active addiction. While training, Ms. Demosthene provided intensive parenting and life skills education to assist parents in regaining custody of their children. She reunited over 50+ parents with their children, provided individualized parenting counseling and therapy to parent successfully and overcome addiction.
Next, Ms. Demosthene began working with the Marion County Health Department and helped create a Harm Reduction Team. Ms. Demosthene was responsible for responding to non-fatal overdoses, and coordinating a multidisciplinary team to assist clients in obtaining MAT and substance abuse treatment.
Afterwards, Ms. Demosthene moved to Baltimore, Maryland to work at Powell Recovery center where she provided clinical therapy to people recovering from addiction. Kedlyne provided group therapy that addressed but was not limited to: trauma, grief, symptom management, interpersonal relationships, anger management, etc. Ms. Demosthene also provided Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which focuses on negative and unhelpful thought, behavior patterns, treating suicidal and other self-destructive behaviors. Ms. Demosthene also used Motivational Therapy, Supportive Therapy, and Strength-Based Therapy to help individuals gain coping skills, confidence, and a positive self-esteem, etc.
At the Clear View Counseling Center, Ms. Demosthene provides psychotherapy to adolescents, adults, couples, and families.
