Maria Cole is a Licensed Master’s Social Worker (LMSW) who also holds a Master of Public Health (MPH). Ms. Cole attended the University of Texas School of Public Health and the University of Texas at Arlington, where she graduated with honors. Her focus in school involved the nexus of macro-level systems and poverty. Ms. Cole formalized her advocacy through work, both academic and professional, and research which synthesized in theses projects centered on alleviating poverty. This work included delving into practical methods to also lessen the pain, trauma and other mental health impacts that poverty can cause. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Public Policy at UMBC.
Ms. Cole’s social work career began in emergency medicine and crisis intervention. Since then, Ms. Cole has worked across the healthcare spectrum including as an inpatient case manager – ranging from perinatal, neonatal, and postpartum disorders to end-of-life, death and dying issues – to an outpatient research case manager. Consistently, throughout her career Ms. Cole has endeavored to help the marginalized fight systems of oppression and ascend to their highest level of health possible. She is passionate about helping a wide range of clients on their respective mental health journeys.
She is an empathetic, warm, and personable therapist. Ms. Cole provides a safe, positive therapeutic environment to aid one’s healing journey through trauma and other diagnoses. Her areas of expertise include depression, anxiety, stress management, self-esteem and identity issues, life transitions, and socioeconomic traumas. She is body positivity, kink, and LGBTQ+ allied. She also works with those who identify as neurodivergent.
