Akia Ward is a Maryland Licensed Master Social Worker who works with children, adolescents, adults, and families through a compassionate, collaborative, and strengths-based approach. She partners with each client to better understand their experiences, develop practical coping skills, and create meaningful change in a supportive and respectful therapeutic environment.
Akia earned her Master of Social Work from Howard University and has clinical experience in behavioral health and school-based settings. Through her work, she has supported individuals experiencing emotional challenges, life transitions, trauma, and concerns related to anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and emotional regulation.
Throughout her clinical experience, Akia has provided individual and group therapy and collaborated with families, educators, and other professionals to better understand each person’s needs and develop meaningful treatment goals. Her work with individuals across the lifespan has strengthened her ability to adapt her approach to each client’s developmental stage, circumstances, and goals.
Akia draws from therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and psychoeducation. She tailors treatment to each client, helping them identify patterns, strengthen coping skills, and make changes that reflect their values and goals.
At the heart of Akia’s approach is the belief that people can grow when they have the space, tools, and support to better understand themselves. She helps clients navigate challenges with greater self-awareness, build confidence in their ability to cope, and develop healthier ways of responding to life’s circumstances.
