Robert “Odin” Hanks is a Maryland Licensed Master Social Worker. In 2018, Odin earned his bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. After earning his bachelor’s, Odin worked with the developmentally disabled population while also working towards his Master’s in Social Work from Salisbury University. While working through the graduate program, Odin was able to work through the clinical pieces of his client’s service plans, including therapy services, behavior plans, and learning the skill of “seeing the person behind the diagnosis”.
Upon receiving his social work licensure, Odin worked as a medical social worker at Franklin Square Medical Center juggling intake assessments, equipment deliveries, hospice conversations, work with patients going through substance use and recovery, and connect patients with home health services. After almost a year in this setting, Odin became a travel social worker where he worked in both the Denver and Boston areas.
While working as a travel social worker, Odin continued in both medical and school social work. As Odin worked in the school system, he worked in middle schools with youth who were diagnosed with Severe Emotional Disability. In this work, Odin worked with these youth in one-on-one counseling sessions to help them learn coping skills, explore situations, and understand the meaning behind their emotions.
Odin believes in using a variety of techniques in therapy, with the focus on being around using techniques that can best benefit the client. Odin is an openly gay cisgender male, and strives to create a warm and inviting environment, so clients can feel safe and secure while discussing the easy and not so easy topics.
