Deanna Sanders, Psy.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist. Dr. Sanders works with children, adolescents, and adults who experience a range of concerns including anxiety and panic disorders, depression, trauma, adjustment disorders/stress, ADHD, OCD and oppositional defiant disorder. She also conducts psychological testing and has experience assessing and diagnosing ADHD, autism, and mood disorders.
Dr. Sanders graduated in 2018 with her Doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University. She earned her Master’s degree in clinical psychology at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in 2016. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology at The University of Dayton in 2009. Dr. Sanders has experience working in inpatient, outpatient, and intensive outpatient settings. She has worked in suburban and inner-city environments. As part of her training, Dr. Sanders completed three externships and one internship in the Chicagoland and southern Wisconsin areas. She completed her internship at Pennsylvania Counseling Services where she provided mental health and addictions counseling, as well as completed psychological testing.
Dr. Sanders approaches therapy with a belief that the client is the expert of their own life, and there is no one size fits all approach. Using this belief Dr. Sanders empowers clients to feel confident identifying solutions that will work best for their unique circumstances.
Dr. Sanders primarily uses cognitive behavioral therapy to help people build new skills to manage and cope with problems, as well as encourages them to consider problems from new perspectives. She utilizes positive psychology to build on people’s individual strengths, client centered therapy to encourage people’s intrinsic ability to grow and solve their own problems, along with mindfulness meditation and motivational interviewing. Dr. Sanders uses play therapy with children to help them develop skills like frustration tolerance and coping with anxiety.
Dr. Sanders moved to Maryland in 2018. In her free time she enjoys hiking, playing board games, playing clarinet, and spending time with her family.
