Psychological Testing and Assessment

At Clear View Counseling Center, we understand that the process of psychological testing and assessment can feel overwhelming or unfamiliar. Our goal is to make this experience as clear, supportive, and helpful as possible. Below is a step-by-step overview of what you can expect during the assessment process.

1. Consultation Phone Interview

Your journey begins with a brief phone call from one of our providers. During this conversation, we will:

  • Discuss your concerns or reasons for seeking testing
  • Determine if our services are a good fit for your needs
  • Review general information about your insurance coverage

This is a great opportunity to ask initial questions and learn what to expect moving forward.

2. Intake Session

The intake session helps us better understand the individual’s history and current concerns. The structure of this session varies by age group:

Adolescents and Adults (Ages 12 and Up):

  • Typically attend one intake appointment.

Children (Ages 6–11):

  • Usually require two initial appointments:
    • Appointment 1: The clinician meets with the parent(s)/guardian(s). This can be scheduled virtually or in person.
    • Appointment 2: The clinician meets with the child in person.

These sessions allow us to gather essential background information before testing begins.

3. Testing Appointment

Testing appointments are typically scheduled 1–2 months after the intake session, depending on provider availability and insurance authorization.

What to Expect:

  • You or your child will complete a series of assessments based on the concerns discussed in the intake.
  • This may include standardized tests, interactive tasks, and written surveys.
  • Children will work individually with the clinician, while parents/guardians may complete questionnaires during this time.

Duration:

  • Most testing appointments last approximately 3 hours, but can range from 2.5 to over 4 hours depending on the individual’s pace and the types of assessments administered.

4. Feedback Session and Results

Approximately 1–2 months after the testing appointment, you will attend a feedback session to go over the results of the assessment.

During this session:

  • You’ll receive a written report summarizing the findings (typically 6–8 pages in length).
  • The clinician will review:
    • Background and testing procedures
    • Summary of results
    • Diagnoses (if applicable)
    • Recommendations for next steps or treatment

⚠️ Note for child assessments: Teacher feedback is often essential and can occasionally delay report completion depending on response times.
